Clear is kind - Avoiding giving feedback is not.

Uncategorized Apr 18, 2023

Do you ever avoid giving ‘difficult’ feedback because you feel bad?

It feels awkward or uncomfortable.

You prefer to correct the work yourself and move on.

Or perhaps, you try to give the feedback, but end-up talking around it – because you’re worried they’ll get upset. You don’t want to be ‘mean’ after all.

I get it. I’ve been there.

But at some point, I was on to myself.

The truth was, I wasn’t doing it for them

I was avoiding the feedback, to avoid my own feelings of discomfort.

And it wasn’t the kind thing to do.

It’s not kind to hold back feedback that will make someone more valuable.

It DEFINITLEY doesn’t feel kind if the lack of feedback puts that person’s job at risk.

So, this is just my reminder to you that, ultimately, clear is kind.

Even when it feels uncomfortable.

It does NOT make you mean.

You’re allowed to be clear AND respectful AND empathetic.

All it takes is 10-minutes of discomfort

It’s worth it.
