➡️ Blasé is NOT a good promotion strategy

Uncategorized Mar 10, 2026

Are you being a little blasé about the next promotion?

I’m curious because, when I ask clients about their goals, I often hear something like:

  • I’m not sure if I actually want the promotion
  • If it happens, it happens

At first glance, they seem indifferent or nonchalant about it.

But I’m always suspicious. 😀

It seems odd to me that, having worked SO hard to get to where you are, you suddenly just “don’t care that much” about advancement.

Now look, if you’re indifferent because you love your current role, have no desire for more, or you're excited about something else, that’s great. This message isn’t for you.

I’m speaking to those of you who, underneath it all, DO want the promotion.

When I dig a little, the (apparent) indifference often comes from fear.

  • Fear of not being good enough or the opportunity not being available
  • Fear of going for it, and then being disappointed

All totally understandable. And all terrible reasons for indifference.

And here’s why it MATTERS, being blasé is NOT a good promotion strategy. From that mindset, you will NOT be…

  • Planting the seed in others that you’re a candidate
  • Seeking out and benefiting from feedback to get you there
  • Finding new opportunities to DO the job ahead of time… etc. etc.

Blasé may feel safe now, but it makes it LESS LIKELY you’ll get the promotion.

So, if you really want it, at the very least, be honest with yourself.

Yes, you might fail. You might feel disappointment in the future. Ok. So what? Should we just give up in advance? No. 😀 Let’s not do that.

You don’t need to avoid disappointment. It’s not a problem.

Instead try focussing your amazing brain on the goal, and watch it go to work! 🔥
